Nothing But Good

This week and last were pretty challenging. I feel like since the start of the school year I just haven't found my groove and for a routine oriented person, that can be paralyzing. Little kids still in school need mommy to help with homework and remember to sign papers from the teacher, big kids moved out and living on their own still need mommy for encouragement and babysitting and car borrowing, husbands need partnership and even more so those in ministry. Houses need cleaning. Dogs need bathing and feeding. Students need their papers graded. Gardens need watering and weeding. The list goes on and on and on. Sometimes you just need a breather.

And then the news that TobyMac's son died suddenly put us back, not because we knew him personally, but when you've grown up listening to an artist and watching them perform, you feel somewhat attached. TruDog was a favorite of our kids and all of them could sing along with him from the backseat to perfection. I sought out Toby's personal statement to the public and was inspired by his comment that he and is wife do not follow God so that He would bless them, but because it is their honor. Last night, we were at a worship gathering and the leader reminded us that we worship God because it is our honor to do so.

Even in the valleys, even in the midst of the storm, even in the dark places, He is always good to us. He is worthy of our praise, our adoration, our worship. In a lifetime, we cannot even hope to touch the edge of paying Him tribute through our shallow words, it is beyond us. There is no bad place in Him, only good and He only does good in our regard, no matter if we can recognize it or not.

This week I was thinking of how best to pray for those grieving and I started thinking that maybe instead of asking the Lord to comfort His people who are suffering, since He already does that, I should be praying that those hurting would see His goodness, that they would feel His comfort, that they would remember that He is worthy of all praise and it is our deepest honor to give our whole life to Him no matter what comes our way. For He is nothing but good.
